For a better future Recycle

Type of Program: Youth initiative, action 1.2.

Period: September 2012. – March 2013.

Place: Sfantu Gheorghe, Kos Karoly Street, no. 2

Participants: 13 youngsters, 80 kids

Main Sponsor: European Commission’s Youth In Action Program

Between September 2012. and March 2013., the Association for Youths and Students in Partium will organize a youth initiative entitled For a better future < recycle.

Our goal is to include 13 youngsters from Sfantu Gheorghe and its surroundings in the organization and realization of activities for children (80) from different schools and kindergartens in the theme of recycling and healthy lifestyle, to motivate the youths to get involved in social, ecological, educational and other kind of causes and actions, and in this way to become active conscious European citizens.

The activities of the project include workshops in the theme of recycling (creating objects from recyclable waste such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes) and in the theme of healthy lifestyle (creating objects from fruits and vegetables), sport competitions, excursions, realizing and presenting a film about environment, educational games, cooking competition, etc.

Through the recycling activities (workshops, games, and film screenings), we intend to motivate the youngsters and the kids to behave eco-friendly and to motivate their family and friends to do so. Through the activities aimed to promote the healthy lifestyle (playful sport activities, workshops, and cooking contest), we intend to motivate the participants to try to consume healthy food and to do sports regularly.

At the end of each activity month we will organize an exhibition, where we will present the objects made by the kids during the workshops. After the exhibition, the objects will be sent to different orphanages.

The project will contribute to personal and social development of young people. They will acquire skills and competencies that they can fructify in the future (creativity, entrepreneurship, initiative, digital competencies, the ability to organize and to cooperate, and so on).

We hope that through this initiative we will contribute to the development of a more “greener” community, which is concerned about the environment’s fate and about the future of new generations.

We want young people to participate as organizers in the activities mentioned above.
We also encourage parents to enroll their children in these activities, because it represents a great opportunity for them to develop their creativity, become more environmentally friendly, and not least to make friends.

We recruit young people to participate as organizers in the activities mentioned above.

We also encourage parents to “enroll” their children in these activities, because this program represents a great opportunity for them to develop their creativity, to become more environmentally friendly, and last but not least to make friends.

Type of program: Selective Collection of Garbage

Time: 08.10.2011 – 09.10.2011

Location: Oradea

Between 8-9 Oktober, 2011 (Satuday-Sunday) took place a campaign for awareness, with the help of youngsters. The aim of this campaign was to make more and more people aware of the importance of selective collection, and that it has a key role on the level of everyday routine. The initiating company was the Eco Bihor. They advertised the movement with three weeks before it, in different TV programmes, newspapers, and they tried to do everything to ensure success.  On 7 October they held a discussion for the volunteers who took part in the campaign. Approximately 150 volunteers were present, high school students, university students and other youngsters, who got every instruction to the weekend program. We hope that we could move something in the minds of people in connection with the selective collection of garbage.

Description of the campaign

Taking in account the situation presented above, the ECO BIHOR company  – as the manager of the Non-Hazardous Waste Landfill and Sorting Hall of Bihor county-, and the RER Ecologic Service Rt. – as the collector of the household waste – were starting an awareness campaign for the local community, in connection with the selective waste-collection.

Together with the campaign the schools were asked to organize a competition of collecting paper.

The program was based on the participation of volunteers, so we sent a group of 2-3 persons to each collecting place. Here they gave flyers to people, and asked them about their way of throwing out the waste. They were also attentive o the people who were doing it by selecting the waste. These people got some little gifts. The volunteers were talking with people about their opinion and their knowledge of selective collection. These youngsters were wearing a bilingual t-shirt with the motto , “COLECTEAZĂ SELECTIV- GYŰJTS SZELEKTÍVEN” (I collect selectively).

The project  emphasized a global problem and challenge which affects the environment, the life of people and the future of new generations: the problem of garbage, of waste. This problem  approached through the attitude and behavior of people. The main goal of the project was to make the participants and the local community aware of their behavior, stimulating them to judge the inappropriate attitude and to “adopt” a green and eco-friendly attitude: do not throw the waste on the street
and in not allowed places, to “reduce, reuse, and recycle”. During the project the participants  planed, organized and realized a campaign consisting of films, photos and informative flyers and posters.

On the day of the campaign the participants  distributed and  presented these materials to the local community in an agglomerated point of the city, and  in the Cinema Libertatea , encouraging people to recycle and to consume consciously.

The project  contributed to the social and personal development of youth and established intercultural dialog between the participants and between the participants and the local community.

Children Day

On 13 March. 2011-

the PIHE association organized a children day in the Cinema Libertatea. The day was coordinated by Marie Hand, participating to a European Volunteering Service in the association. About forty children spent the day in the Cinema Libertatea enjoying the well diversified schedule proposed by PIHE.

After a sportive and playing wake-up organized by Charles Szabo, during which children could meet each other, they could enjoy a pantomime show, played by the deaf-mute Remus Ilisie. This show “I want to fly” was a big success for the public. Then, the artist permited the children to discover the joy of pantomime by proposing an interactive pantomime exercise.

At the end of the morning, it was the Arcadia Pupet Theater company who offered us a show combining music, puppets, tales. A real pleasure!

At the beginning of the afternoon, David Bertin, also volunteer with the EVS program, gave us a juggling show with balls, a hat and stick, after which he initiated the children to do this activity.

The day ended in a more peaceful atmosphere with the projection of short-movies.

During free times, kids had free access to other workshops put at the entrance of the cinema. Inflatable balloons, origami, pearls, drawings, face painting, paintings, were some of the activities proposed.

The cinema, which will re-open soon, had been transformed for one day in a playing and creating place for children and for older youths!

The PIHE association thanks a lot to all the people who contributed to the success of that day, and also to the kids, for their happiness and their energy..
