For a better future < recycle

For a better future Recycle

Type of Program: Youth initiative, action 1.2.

Period: September 2012. – March 2013.

Place: Sfantu Gheorghe, Kos Karoly Street, no. 2

Participants: 13 youngsters, 80 kids

Main Sponsor: European Commission’s Youth In Action Program

Between September 2012. and March 2013., the Association for Youths and Students in Partium will organize a youth initiative entitled For a better future < recycle.

Our goal is to include 13 youngsters from Sfantu Gheorghe and its surroundings in the organization and realization of activities for children (80) from different schools and kindergartens in the theme of recycling and healthy lifestyle, to motivate the youths to get involved in social, ecological, educational and other kind of causes and actions, and in this way to become active conscious European citizens.

The activities of the project include workshops in the theme of recycling (creating objects from recyclable waste such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes) and in the theme of healthy lifestyle (creating objects from fruits and vegetables), sport competitions, excursions, realizing and presenting a film about environment, educational games, cooking competition, etc.

Through the recycling activities (workshops, games, and film screenings), we intend to motivate the youngsters and the kids to behave eco-friendly and to motivate their family and friends to do so. Through the activities aimed to promote the healthy lifestyle (playful sport activities, workshops, and cooking contest), we intend to motivate the participants to try to consume healthy food and to do sports regularly.

At the end of each activity month we will organize an exhibition, where we will present the objects made by the kids during the workshops. After the exhibition, the objects will be sent to different orphanages.

The project will contribute to personal and social development of young people. They will acquire skills and competencies that they can fructify in the future (creativity, entrepreneurship, initiative, digital competencies, the ability to organize and to cooperate, and so on).

We hope that through this initiative we will contribute to the development of a more “greener” community, which is concerned about the environment’s fate and about the future of new generations.

We want young people to participate as organizers in the activities mentioned above.
We also encourage parents to enroll their children in these activities, because it represents a great opportunity for them to develop their creativity, become more environmentally friendly, and not least to make friends.

We recruit young people to participate as organizers in the activities mentioned above.

We also encourage parents to “enroll” their children in these activities, because this program represents a great opportunity for them to develop their creativity, to become more environmentally friendly, and last but not least to make friends.

The project  emphasized a global problem and challenge which affects the environment, the life of people and the future of new generations: the problem of garbage, of waste. This problem  approached through the attitude and behavior of people. The main goal of the project was to make the participants and the local community aware of their behavior, stimulating them to judge the inappropriate attitude and to “adopt” a green and eco-friendly attitude: do not throw the waste on the street
and in not allowed places, to “reduce, reuse, and recycle”. During the project the participants  planed, organized and realized a campaign consisting of films, photos and informative flyers and posters.

On the day of the campaign the participants  distributed and  presented these materials to the local community in an agglomerated point of the city, and  in the Cinema Libertatea , encouraging people to recycle and to consume consciously.

The project  contributed to the social and personal development of youth and established intercultural dialog between the participants and between the participants and the local community.

The activities of the projects were based on the principles of non formal learning, including brainstorming, round-table discussions, creative activities, workshops and fieldwork.
